His iconic imagery emerged on the subway walls of New York City in the early 1980s, breaking the barrier between high art and street art almost overnight. Haring’s art was accessible to the masses, both physically and visually, without pretence and full of optimism.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cmeta charset=\"utf-8\"\u003eHaring was not only interested in tagging or image making in public spaces. As he established himself in the art world, an element of advocacy in his practice continued to increase, with a particular focus on HIV\/AIDS awareness and activism. It is still shocking and heartbreaking that he succumbed to the disease at the age of 32.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHaring created this poster for the National Gay Rights Advocates, West Hollywood, on occasion of the first ever National Coming Out Day in 1988. While Haring created several posters to commemorate events or occasions that he was passionate about, this image is particularly recognizable. The composition would go on to become an unofficial logo for National Coming Out Day, and was featured on the cover of the most recent Catalogue Raisonné of Haring posters (Döring\/Osten, 2017). \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThroughout his career, Haring created poster designs that were bold, fun, and cosmopolitan, all the while using his platform advocate and raise awareness for societal emergencies.
