CHARLES PACHTER "AROUND THE MOUNTAIN" 1969
Caviar20 has had the pleasure and privilege to work with Canadian legend and artist extraordinaire Charles Pachter.
Every so often we convince him to let us investigate his archives...and always to discover gems that have been in storage for decades.
"She'll be Coming Around the Mountain" is a perfect example of such treasures.
In the late 1960's Pachter taught at the University of Calgary. While he had already received accolades and some commercial success this period was just prior to him establishing his signature style that is graphic, clean edged and sharply charming.
Pachter was teaching printmaking and the influence of etchings is very clear in this early silkscreen.
During this period he was still experimenting with mood, style and text. We can see the possible influence of artists such as Dubuffet and Hockney.
"She'll be Coming Around the Mountain" is a spectacular example of work from Pachter's time out west and this transitional period in his body of work.
It has a spectacular texture and palette and is evocative of the uplifting, playful patriotism Pachter is known for.
