Robert Capa (1913–1954) was one of the most influential photojournalists of the 20th century.
Born Endre Friedmann in Budapest, he moved to Paris in 1933 and established himself as a photographer. His experiences covering the Spanish Civil War and Second World War defined his career. In 1947, he co-founded Magnum Photos, establishing a new model for independent photojournalism. His photographs are distinguished by their immediacy and proximity to their subjects.
Capa’s "Death of a Loyalist Soldier" is one of the most recognizable photographs of the 20th century and a defining image of modern photojournalism. Capturing the instant a Spanish Republican soldier is struck down during the Spanish Civil War, the photograph conveys the visceral experience of combat with startling immediacy. Its graphic intensity transformed a single moment of violence into an enduring symbol of war.
Capa took the photograph in September 1936 while on assignment for Vu magazine. He immersed himself in the conflict, photographing combat at close range with his Leica. The image was subsequently published in LIFE magazine in July 1937, where its unflinching depiction of death brought the realities of the Spanish Civil War into American homes.
The photograph’s expressive power can be compared to Francisco Goya’s "The Third of May, 1808." Like Goya, Capa isolates the instant of death, stripping away narrative to focus on a single, suspended moment of violence. The result is an image whose significance extends beyond its historical circumstances. Repeatedly reproduced in LIFE, Time, and photographic anthologies, "Death of a Loyalist Soldier" remains one of the most indelible images of modern warfare.
This image is held in numerous permanent public collections, including the Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

We can ship anywhere. Typically when we ship within North America we prefer to use FedEx or DHL. To Europe, Asia and beyond we generally use DHL.Â

For shipments within North America, we typically charge a flat rate fee. Many items on our site will list the rate. For shipping outside of North America, we can easily provide a quote and will look for the most efficient and economical option.
Most of the items on our site can be easily shipped internationally.
Occasionally we will recommend that an artwork be removed from its frame for shipping. Larger framed works are typically framed with plexiglass. We export over 80% of what we sell, so we are comfortable shipping anywhere.Â

When a work is valued above $2,500 usd there is a possibility of tax of 0.35%, but this is applied sporadically. There can similarly be an additional fee for customs brokerage and this can range from $20 - $65. US Taxes, duties and customs brokerage are not included in our flat rate shipping. However most of our shipments to the US enter without any additional fees.Â
