VASA MIHICH "MOTHERSHIP" TRIANGLE, 2018
Caviar20 is excited to be offering this impressive and monumental sculpture by Vasa Mihich (b. 1933). The Los Angeles based artist has been working with acrylic since 1967. A true master of the medium, his innovative approach differed from those of contemporaries associated with the Fetish Finish or Light and Space movements. Mihich did not work with moulds, but rather formulated a unique approach similar to stack lamination. The result of this is evident in his incredible ombre effects, where colors appear suspended within the sculpture as it transitions from one shade to another.
"Mothership" is realized in one of his favorite palettes – sky blue, electric orange, coral, grape purple and aqua. This is the largest Mihich triangle we have handled to date, measuring nearly two feet wide.
Today, Mihich's work can be found in numerous private and museum collections, including the Hirschhorn Museum (Washington, DC), the SFMoMA, the Denver Art Museum, the Phillips Collection (Washington, DC), The Musées Royaux des Beaux-Arts de Belgique (Brussels) and the Weisman Art Foundation (Los Angeles).
