With his unmistakable version of contemporary Surrealism, as comical as they are otherworldly, Marcel Dzama is one of Canada's most internationally successful artists.
Born in Winnipeg in 1974, Dzama would begin exhibiting globally just a year after graduating from the University of Manitoba with early champions of his work including Jim Carrey and Nicholas Cage.
In the 1990's, as one of the founding members of the Royal Art Lodge, Dzama contributed to the renaissance of figurative art and simultaneously put Winnipeg on the map as a center for Canadian creativity.
Dzama's works are instantly recognizable for their subject and style. He draws as much from the visual language of folk art as he does from the art historical. His images dance right on the edge of our familiarity, often evoking the feeling of leafing through a child's picture book and stoping at random to examine a page.
Classically Dzama, this work features two characters: a woman and a humanoid creature somewhere between lion and dog. The woman swipes exasperatedly at the creature, all traces of patience long gone. The creature, in contrast, follows enthusiastically just a half-step behind, completely undeterred. As always with Dzama's work, despite the figures' expressions, there is an endearing quality to the scene that fills the viewer with joy and curiosity.Â
Dzama's work can be found in a host of prestigious public and private collections including Paris' Centre Georges Pompidou, The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the MoMA, Le MusĂ©e d’art contemporain de MontrĂ©al. He is particularly favored by celebrity collectors including Brad Pitt, Jim Carrey and Steve Martin.Â

Our inventory is divided between New York and Toronto.Â

We can ship anywhere. Typically when we ship within North America we prefer to use FedEx or DHL. To Europe, Asia and beyond we generally use DHL.Â
-Â How much does it cost to ship?
For shipments within North America, we typically charge a flat rate fee. Many items on our site will list the rate. For shipping outside of North America, we can easily provide a quote and will look for the most efficient and economical option.
Most of the items on our site can be easily shipped internationally.
Occasionally we will recommend that an artwork be removed from its frame for shipping. Larger framed works are typically framed with plexiglass. We export over 80% of what we sell, so we are comfortable shipping anywhere.Â
-Â Are there additional taxes or fees?
When a work is valued above $2,500 usd there is a possibility of tax of 0.35%, but this is applied sporadically. There can similarly be an additional fee for customs brokerage and this can range from $20 - $65. US Taxes, duties and customs brokerage are not included in our flat rate shipping. However most of our shipments to the US enter without any additional fees.Â

Yes, we guarantee everything we sell. We can provide both a digital and printed version of our certificate of authenticity.Â
What is your return policy?

Return shipping is the responsibility of the customer. After 8 days returns are given a credit note. There is no expiration for our credit notes.
