Edward Burtynsky

Edward Burtynsky (b. 1955) is one of Canada’s most successful photographers. A noted filmmaker, entrepreneur, and environmental advocate, he is known internationally for his incredibly detailed images documenting the processes and consequences of using the earth’s natural resources. His images, which at times approach abstraction, present a bizarre tension between beauty and desecration. Over the years, he has crossed the globe exploring the mark of human development on the earth and its embedded political, social and economic consequences.
