David Hockney, Sunflowers. Flowers are an essential and recurring motif throughout the artist's oeuvre. His fresh, vased arrangments highlight the simple pleasures and contentment of domestic life. While the subject is rich with reference to titans such as Van Gogh, Monet, and Vermeer, Hockney's sunflowers are distinctly poignant, serving as a symbol of impermanence during a period of profound personal loss.David Hockney, Sunflowers.
